Ten plants that can help you stay healthy
in your backyard:

1. Chicory –

The plant that will ease your pain that you should grow in your yard

Native Americans used to look for this plant in the wild more than any other. They would pick chicory and use the leaves to make a natural product that would help with a lot of different kinds of pain, especially in stiff and sore joints. You can, too! To grow chicory, you’ll need a sunny spot in your garden with well-drained soil. Sow the seeds in early spring and keep the soil moist until they germinate. Chicoric acid (CA), a plant substance that is found in large amounts in the root, is very good at reducing inflammation and pain without making people addicted. Having even a small patch of chicory growing in your backyard will help if our shops ever run out of medicine.

2. Yarrow

The Backyard Wound Healer

Having a reliable and efficient method to heal a wound, without exacerbating the bleeding, is crucial. Yarrow, a true lifesaver, demonstrated its dual capabilities when it saved my finger. On the 42nd day of my Alone adventure, a fish gutting mishap resulted in a deep cut on my hand. With no antibiotics at hand, the risk of infection was high. However, yarrow came to the rescue, preventing the wound from worsening.

Fortune smiled upon me as I stumbled upon some yarrow, which I promptly used to dress the wound. The results were astounding. The bleeding ceased almost immediately, and my wound healed so well that it left behind a barely noticeable scar. This experience has taught me the value of preparedness, and I now carry a bag of dried yarrow with me at all times. Not only is yarrow a potent wound healer, but it also acts as a natural insect repellent when applied as a tincture on the skin, keeping mosquitoes and other bugs at bay.

3. California poppy

Better Than Sleeping Pills

The California poppy helps you get a deep, restful sleep as we had as kids when it was easy to fall asleep and stay asleep for at least eight hours every night. Instead of taking prescription sleep aids, why not use this plant to make your Sleep Tea?

It helps me fall asleep quickly after drinking it before bed while I read or watch TV. It was hard to wake me up. Even my kids tried a few times. If you have major insomnia or PTSD, you can make a stronger sleep tincture from California poppy. That ought to do it.

4. marshmallow

This plant is the most powerful for a healthy digestive system.

A marshmallow is a white, fluffy treat that most people think of when they hear the word “marshmallow.” In the past, these were made from the root of the marshmallow plant, which is a very useful herb for medicine that you should try to grow yourself. Its leaves and roots kill germs, and more importantly, they have mucilage, which is like sap.

As the marshmallow mucilage moves through your digestive system, it will add an extra layer of protection to your stomach, intestines, and colon. Along the way, it will soothe any inflammation it comes across. Because of this, this tea also helps people who have stomach ulcers or gut problems like heartburn, indigestion, constipation, IBS, or Chron’s disease.

5. chamomile

The Natural Antibiotic

Chamomile used to grow in my grandmother’s yard. She picked the flowers in early fall, dried them on old newspapers, and put them in Mason jars. She thought this plant could fix everything. If I got pinkeye, she would put a warm cloth soaked in chamomile tea over my red, itchy eyes. If I was sick, she would make me drink the tea, which made me feel better quickly.

It makes you feel better and helps your digestive muscles rest. You can also create your chamomile oil with this plant. Chamomile oil is still one of the best natural skin care products out there. That’s thought to be because chamomile oil can reach deep into your skin, which is where real healing happens.

6. Evening Primrose

A Natural Remedy for Skin and Nerves

The name “evening primrose” is derived from the fact that its blossoms bloom at sunset. Each bloom is only present for one night. Our ancestors would employ it to create a poultice for skin eruptions, wounds, and injuries. It transpired that they were correct. Gamma-linolenic acid and linolenic acid are two substances that our epidermis requires but are unable to synthesise independently. This plant contains these substances.

They are also crucial for the membranes of nerve cells, which is likely why an increasing number of individuals with unresolved nerve pain are turning to this plant. Evening primrose can also assist in the regulation of hormone levels. If you experience persistent fatigue, unexplained weight gain, or an inability to tolerate extreme temperatures, you may be experiencing a hormonal imbalance.

7. Lavender

The Perennial Anti-Inflammatory Herb

You are likely already aware of the way in which this aromatic plant can prevent insects from feeding on your winter wardrobe. However, it can provide a plethora of additional benefits when utilised medicinally. A recent double-blind study determined that lavender oil reduces anxiety to the same degree as a daily dose of Lorazepam, a widely used anxiety medication, at a concentration of 0.5 mg.

Utilising a lavender tincture in conjunction with a conventional antidepressant can expedite the recovery process from mild to moderate depression and reduce the likelihood of a relapse. Additionally, applying a few droplets of lavender oil to your scalp on a daily basis can enhance blood circulation, fortify hair follicles, and even alleviate hair loss. I enjoy combining it with my shampoo due to its divine fragrance and other qualities.

8. Echinacea

Grow the Most Potent Immunity Plant

Protecting our health is the most important thing. If you’re really sick and don’t have any medicine on hand, a strong one could save you. This could happen even if you have the best drugs and doctors by your side. If you want to keep your defence system strong, echinacea is the best plant for you.

On the other hand, don’t think that supplements from the health store are even close to the natural drugs you can make from plants you grow yourself. That is true for all plants, but it is especially true for echinacea, which has become too famous. One of the natural products that is most often faked is this one. So why take a chance on a bad batch that won’t do much? It’s better to grow your own.

9. Calendula

The herb you should always have with you when things are bad

Calendula was something I learned about from my grandfather before I came across it in my flower work. He was always working on his projects around the house, and one day, he cut his leg all the way through by mistake. He was so stubborn that he wouldn’t see a doctor. Every time he dressed the wound, he just tied it with a thick cloth and poured my grandmother’s marigold extract on it. You won’t believe how quickly it healed!

I learned later that this strong outdoor helper could be used for other things. I make calendula salve to help bruises, scrapes, cuts, sores, burns, scalds, and all kinds of rashes and bug bites heal faster and leave fewer scars. Calendula tea does something very special and important. Moving lymphatic fluid around cleans your lymphatic system of the gross leftovers of old diseases and the metabolic waste we all build up over time. My best guess is that no current drug does this, even though it’s very important for staying healthy.

10. Feverfew

Nature's Aspirin for Headaches and Fever

If you live near Feverfew, you’ll always be able to treat a cold, bring down a fever, or stop a migraine. People who have sensitive or painful joints have used this plant to help reduce swelling and pain. Parthenolide, a chemical found in the plant, seems to be what gives it its healing properties. Parthenolide is most concentrated in the flower heads and leaves. To get the most out of this plant, it is easier to chew on real leaves and flower heads.

In the leaflet, I’ll explain in detail how to use your Feverfew to make the anti-migraine tincture. For some headaches, a few drops in your tea or coffee should be enough. You will also learn how a product made from feverfew flowers can be a very effective way to treat arthritic and nerve pain.
